We made a short stop in playa del coco, because we wanted to skate this small DIY ramp we have seen from the street.

The locals from Playa del Coco used this abandand place for building a few ramps.
The place has definetly potential to build more. If somebody who wants to build some more at that place, reads this please contact us at puravidaskateboarding@gmx.de

When you are driving on the dirtroad in Playa Negra/Guanacaste you have no idea that there is a 700 m2 DIY skatepark.Guanacaste has to say thanks to Kaleb, Leo and Mike for that great spot! These guys worked 1 ½ years with a small team of 4-5 helpers, one mixer and 3 wheelbaros at the skatepark. The first idea was to build a halfpipe but then they decided to build the El Mutante skatepark.

There was just a rough plan and some sketches. The guys just started building and decided during the building process what comes next, with big success!
Thats why the park is called El Mutante, because is was growing more and more and it hopefully does the same in the future. They are planning a bowl and its only a question of time until Kaleb, Leo and Mike turn on the concret mixer again

Here a video of the construction phase of El Mutante skatepark:

The way they built the skatepark shows that Kaleb and Mike are 100% Skateboarder because every centimeter is skateable and you can find endless lines in El Mutante.

Mike is originaly from south California but he lives since 8 years in Costa Rica and he takes care of the soda Grinds which is the perfect palce for parents who want to see their kids skating and if they are hungry they can have delicious food.

Kaleb Stevens from Santa Cruz/California was two years old when he stand the first time on a board because his father was a skater and surfer, too. 38 years later Kaleb still skates and since 8 years in Costa Rica. The design is a mix of places Kaleb skated in California andHawaii.

These guys understand how important it is to give kids a place to grow and to be more creativ and in the same time they gave a perfect place for the community of Playa Negra.

In the future they want to develop more educational programms to help kids. They built a big open room over the soda and want to give music and art lessons. Its a perfect place for kids after school.

Kaleb, Mike and Leo share the same dream like we do, that Costa Rica gets more places to skate and that the goverment from Costa Rica finally understands that a skatepark is really important for the kids, like basketball or soccer fields…
